ALL ABOUT RACE TO BLACK BELT

PREP - YEAR 3  BLACK BELT CERTIFICATE SERIES

WHAT IS "RACE TO BLACK BELT"? :

This is an initiative (commencing at the beginning of Term 2, 2015 to encourage children to learn  more Japanese through fun and engaging activities.

It harnesses a fun sense of competition with goal-setting to encourage students to race each other across as map of Japan to see who can achieve their very best.

Children receive a RACE TO BLACK BELT PASSPORT when they complete their first in-class quiz. On that passport, there is a map of Japan and a record of all of the 47 areas that they have to cover.

There are 47 recognised Prefectures in Japan and each time a child masters the content in each corresponding Prefecture, they get that Prefecture coloured in by their teacher.

Students sit simple quizzes in class time to allow them to see if they have mastered an area of content or whether they need to try again.

We present content through flashcards, pretend quizzes and games to make the content engaging. There is no pressure for students to reach certain benchmarks, this is meant to be a self-driven project.

When a child is ready to be quizzed on a topic, they just have to tell the teacher at the start of the lesson and then they will be allocated a time slot in the lesson.

To MASTER a topic, students have to receive 100% their marked quiz. Getting an A+ in Practice Quizzes below is a good indication.

Awards will be given to students throughout the year to reward their progress e.g. As children progress, they are given a Coloured Certificate

for achieving certain benchmarks.

These awards are in the form of YELLOW, ORANGE, GREEN, BROWN & BLACK Certificates
