Prep Page
Welcome Prep Parents and Students, I have a real desire to share my love of Japanese with all students and parents. I work hard to make sure that your kids learn about the Japanese language and culture but also develop a love of learning. Our objectives are to use as much communicative, authentic Japanese as possible and introduce new words, grammatical patterns and culture through songs, games and hands-on activities. Please take time to enjoy this page with your child and don't hesitate to come and ask me some questions. Let's work together!

How about you do some Listening Practice?
Get an ADULT to click on the flashcards
(make sure the sound is on and Japanese is clicked as the flashcard to show first).
Listen to the Japanese word and try to guess the correct ENGLISH answer.
It might take a bit of practice. As we go through the term, kids will become familiar.
There is a Settings Cog on the right-hand side of of the gadget called "Options" to set them up correctly.
Click on "Audio On" and "Start with JAPANESE"
Hiragana
We are going to be learning some Hiragana this year! Hiragana is one of 3 Japanese scripts that Japanese kids learn. Hiragana is the first group of characters introduced to Japanese kids at kindergarten and school. There are 46 basic characters. I have created a system to help kids learn these characters through mnemonics (making up stories to help associate the character with a mental image).
Here is the Hiragana chart:
Here are the first 5 Hiragana with my stories: (Flick through the flashcards)
But how do you write it? Have a look at the video and try to write on the Electronic Whiteboard underneath:
Kanji
Kanji comes from China but it is also a script that Japanese people use it to write. They are called Pictograms because they originally came from pictures of words. Try writing some on the Whiteboard above the picture:.
